What happens when a passionate teacher combines technology with empathy?
Neeru Mittal's extraordinary journey reveals how one teacher’s vision can break barriers, empower peers and students. Discover how she spread her teacher’s wings beyond her classrooms and sparked a change far beyond the school walls.
In a small classroom in Delhi, a teacher stood before her students, not just with books, but with a vision - a vision to change lives through technology. Meet Neeru Mittal, a passionate educator who didn’t just teach computer science; she used it to open doors of opportunity for thousands of children.
Before formally joining as a teacher, her journey began with taking up tuitions during college to supplement her pocket money. She later stepped into the world of teaching at as Computer Science teacher in a School in 1996.
For many, a teacher’s role ends within the four walls of a classroom, but for Neeru, it was just the beginning.

What started as a commitment to her students soon grew into a mission to empower children from underprivileged communities, tribal schools, and remote villages. Over the years, she has impacted more than one and half lakh students and academicians, trained educators across India, and introduced innovative teaching methodologies. Her efforts have been recognized by the Government of India, NCERT, SCERT, and Niti Aayog, earning her prestigious awards like the National ICT Award for Teachers and Delhi State Teacher Award.
Neeru believed that STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education should not be a privilege but a right. Through projects like "Robotics for All," she introduced science and technology to underprivileged students, tribal learners, and children with special needs.
With limited resources but boundless creativity, she taught students to build robots from waste materials, explore artificial intelligence, and participate in STEM competitions. Girls who had never imagined a future in technology found confidence in coding and innovation. Under her mentorship, students from government schools went on to compete at national and international levels, proving that talent knows no boundaries.
In a world increasingly focused on empathy and emotional intelligence, Neeru went beyond traditional teaching by developing “Programming with Empathy.” This unique pedagogy merged technology with compassion, teaching students not just how to code, but how to use coding to solve real-world human problems.

She also introduced the Gratitude Wall and Kindness Diary, encouraging students to reflect, appreciate, and build a culture of kindness. These initiatives have now been adopted by educators across the globe, making Neeru a pioneer in integrating Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) with technology.
From bringing technology to rural villages to mentoring educators nationwide, her journey is one of innovation, empathy, and relentless dedication.
Her efforts have been recognized at the highest levels, but for Neeru, the real success lies in the students who now dream bigger, aim higher, and believe in their potential.
