SCERT Delhi Organizes Capacity Building Programme on "ICT in Education" for Master Trainers
New Delhi, July 24, 2024 - The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Delhi, recently organized a two-day Capacity Building Programme for Master Trainers on "ICT in Education." Held on July 22-23, the training targeted experienced educators selected as Master Trainers, preparing them to instruct postgraduate (PGT) and trained graduate teachers (TGT) in Computer Science throughout the Directorate of Education, Delhi. The programme focused on equipping educators with advanced skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), in line with the principles of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE).
Coordinated by Dr. Sapna Yadav, Nodal Officer of ICT in Education at SCERT Delhi, this intensive program was designed to provide Master Trainers with hands-on experience in emerging digital education tools, with particular emphasis on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and information literacy. Expert resource persons, including Mradula Singh, Prashant Kumar, Vineeta Garg, Neeru Mittal, and Purvi Srivastava, led sessions that highlighted practical applications of AI, digital ethics, intellectual property rights, and media and information literacy (MIL).
During her session, Mradula Singh, Founder of NexSchools, introduced educators to UNESCO’s MIL framework, emphasizing practical techniques for evaluating and filtering information in an age where misinformation and AI-driven disinformation are increasingly prevalent. Her interactive activities allowed teachers to experience firsthand how to instil these critical skills in students, making them more adept at navigating a digital landscape that is transforming at a rapid pace. The session empowered teachers to confidently navigate today’s digital information landscape, a vital skill as technology becomes more integrated into the learning environment.
Transformative Training for Broader Impact
1,800 Teachers Empowered
This initiative didn’t stop at the Master Trainers. Following this intensive programme, SCERT conducted large-scale trainings from August 1 to August 23, 2024, reaching approximately 1,800 teachers across 18 venues in Delhi. Teachers were not just equipped with knowledge but also empowered to apply it in the classrooms. They learned to navigate an AI-powered digital world, apply practical strategies for information literacy, understand the ethical use of intellectual property, and guide students in digital responsibility. For many, it was a real eye-opener, showing just how much AI is shaping our lives and how a few simple tips can make a big difference in the classroom. It also underscored how vital it is to teach information literacy in a world flooded with “fake news.” This capacity-building initiative has already begun to yield results. Following the two-day Master Trainers' session, large-scale trainings were conducted for PGT and TGT Computer Science teachers from August 1 to August 23, 2024. Held at SCERT Delhi’s Training Wing and across 18 locations in Delhi, these sessions trained approximately 1,800 educators, equipping them with current skills in AI integration, mobile app development, and digital rights and responsibilities. These sessions provided teachers with a solid foundation in digital literacy and advanced ICT competencies, crucial for implementing NEP 2020’s vision of a technologically adaptive education system.
Empowering Teachers for an AI-Driven Future
As digital devices and applications continue to transform educational practices, SCERT Delhi’s programme plays a pivotal role in keeping teachers at the forefront of technological innovation. By aligning training content with NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023 recommendations, the SCERT Delhi initiative ensures educators are prepared to integrate AI, digital ethics, and information literacy into their teaching practices effectively.
