Pune, India 4 September 2024 – In a significant initiative aimed at enhancing digital literacy and promoting safer online practices, Symbiosis Skills & Professional University (SSPU) hosted an engaging event titled "Building a Happier and Safer Internet for all." This gathering brought together aspiring content creators and marketers from the School of Media Management, highlighting their vital role in shaping the digital media landscape. More than 150 students and faculty members gathered for the interactive talk, aimed at equipping future content creators and marketers with essential knowledge on ethical content creation and digital media responsibilities.
The event featured Mradula Singh, Founder and CEO of NexSchools, as the Chief Guest. With her extensive industry experience, Ms. Singh inspired students by discussing the importance of ethical content creation and the responsibilities that come with being media and information-literate future professionals. “As creators, you must prioritize ethics in your work to promote a safer online environment,” she emphasized, urging the students to take their roles seriously in an era where misinformation is rampant.
Special thanks were extended to Dr. Rajesh Ingle, Vice Chancellor, SPPU and Dr. Jaya Patil, Head of the School of Media Management, for their support and commitment to this essential cause.
The event also marked an inspiring new chapter with the launch of the NexSchools Youth Ambassadors Program (YAP) at SSPU. This initiative is dedicated to empowering young leaders who are passionate about shaping the media landscape. Students also prepared to participate in UNESCO's annual Global Youth Hackathon, collaborating to brainstorm innovative solutions to the pressing challenges of misinformation, disinformation, and fake news. Their enthusiasm and commitment to learning were evident as they engaged with UNESCO’s framework for Media and Information Literacy (MIL), eager to adopt best practices that can make a difference.
This program is an integral part of NexSchools' ongoing social impact project, Happier and Safer Internet (HSI) for all, which aims to tackle the rising challenges posed by artificial intelligence and other digital threats. Beyond simply raising awareness, the program emphasizes project-based learning and practical ethical practices. Through YAP NexSchools aim to create a powerful force for positive change that empowers youth and ensuring that higher education institutes and their students receive up-to-date education on digital ethics, media literacy, and the implications of emerging technologies.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve, events like this are vital in preparing future professionals with the knowledge and skills they need to navigate and enhance online spaces for everyone. NexSchools invites more universities to join hands to empower a generation of leaders who are not only savvy in technology but also committed to creating a safer and more inclusive digital world.
