A for Honesty
You may be surprised seeing the above title. Am I right? Because you might have heard A for ant, apple, axe, etc. I was also surprised when I saw the title. Let me tell you an incidence about this.
A few days ago, my mother asked me to read a story. But I told it’s boring. My mother scolded me and asked me to read the story. I started reading the story, gradually I found it interesting. When I finished reading the story, I felt very happy. This story was written by the great writer Sudha Murty. Let me share that story with you. The name of the story was ‘A’ for Honesty.
Sudha Murty’s son was studying in US. One day, he called his mother and told that he did not do his exams well. It is not that he did not know the answers. But instead of digit 8 he had written 6 and did the entire calculations based on it. So, he was very sad. Her mother replied ' Don’t be upset,
I know you will do well in next exams, but don’t be negligent’.
After a few days, he called her mother again and told that ‘I got ‘A’ grade in that subject. She was surprised and asked how come? He told that after the exams once his professor called him and discussed about various topics. He expressed his happiness on their conversation. When I got the papers, I saw that I got some marks for the wrong answers. I went to the professor and asked Sir, I do not deserve this marks. You have given me some marks for the wrong answer by mistakely. His professor told I have not given this marks by mistake. I know the depth of your knowledge and your passion for subject and your honesty. So I gave these marks for your honesty.
With this story I realized that getting ‘A’ grade is important but being honest is even more important in our life. Then onwards I started reading books.
