Dasara was said to start by vijayanagara kingdom during 14th century. It is about more than 400 years of celebration till today. Mahanavami Dibba and Hazara rama temple are the evidence for grand celebration of dasara at Hampi.Mahanavami Dibba is a stone platform found inside the royal enclosure of hampi. The enclosures have detailed about the Vijayadashami celebration in this region. It was celebrated with great religious importance, Devote and passion. The walls of Hazara rama temple is having beautifully designed sculptures. It shows the details of Ramayana, Mahabharata and Bhagwatha stories about dasara. Apart from this folk artist like Kolkata, Dombarata, Wrestlers, Gymnasts, Insrtuments, Okali aata, Bharthanatyam, Street dance and Monkey charmers were performed at various stages of Hampi. Many Royal defense and Other people were involving in the processions. Mahanavami, Navaratri, Banni habba, Hiriyara Habba are synonyms for dasara in the hampi region. Other foreign traveler named Nazi described dasara in AD 1440 as “It is a great fest celebrated nine days in what is inferred to be dasara. Wrestling, Competations, Musicians and the dancers are entertaining the court. The march of the companioned elephants, Decorated horses, Foot soldiers were marvelous”
After the fall of Vijayanagara kingdom Wodayar Dynasty of Mysuru Continued this tradition. The festival in mysuru begins with the Wodayar royal couple performing special Pooja to goddess chamundeshwari located on top of the Chamundi hill. Later Special durbar in mysuru was started in 18th century. This tradition is even continued today with current wodayar family holding private durbar. Actually this durbar was said to started for updating the innovations and developments to the people by king Chama raja wodeyar. Now Mysuru palace is entirely entrusted to Karnataka Exhibition authority from 1987.Various activities such as Kusthi, Panjina kavayithu, Flower show, Banni Pooja, Food festivals, Exhibitions are performed in various locations of mysoru during this period.
