Now to sum up I would like to share the moments from the film that I completely adore. Hope that the ones who have seen the film might relate to them.
· “Socho mat ki kahan aur kab aur kiski, bas maza lo kahani ka”
In this scene Ved is confused as the story teller has mixed multiple stories and was reciting to him the wrong one. When he complains about it, the story teller asks him “Kya dikkat hai? Arey kahani, kahani hoti hai, aur vahi kahani har jagah chalti hai, har vakt.” Simple yet so deep! And if you come to think of it, very true. There actually is only one story that keeps repeating era after era, it’s actually the same thing that we keep on passing to the new generations, and which will circulate for the eternity to come.
· “Kisey chahiye, man ka sona, aankh ki moti, kisey padi hai, andar kya hai? Hoti ret hai, lagta paani.”
The scenes where Ved addresses random people on the streets is just Poetry personified. The way he lets his emotion spill out in the form of words is so worth it! Though it’s highly philosophical, what he says, it’s a treat to the ears and the mind, and the heart, and the way Ranbir Kapoor nails each of them is just phenomenal. But his dialogues for sure are thought provoking. He poses a question that surely arises in some of our minds, that who values what’s inside? In one of his street ventures, he says, “Konse rang ka dil hai tera, kya chahta hai? Bolo? Jawab do!” which again I felt was impactful.
· “Tujhe pyaar ho gaya hai pagli, par kisi aur se.”
The most romantic and emotional scene of the film, though somewhat cliché, yet it was quite different from any other breaking apart scene. Not only was the dispute between Ved and Tara, but it was also between Ved and himself. Tara, as the hopeless romantic, that she had become, could do anything to get Ved, even if that meant a compromise for her. Ved repelled her, asked her to leave, but she simply couldn’t. She could do anything, literally anything, but not let Ved go. She had to be with him, she had to be for him, irrespective of anything.
· “Darta hai? Dar lagta hai? Apni kahani mujhse poochta hai kayar. Kis se darta hai? Hai kon yaha? Tu bata kya hota hai aage? Kya hai tere dil ke andar? Chahta kya hai tu?”
And drumrolls for perhaps the best scene of the entire film. In this scene, unable to find answers, Ved rushes to his old story teller in the hopes that he might have the answers to his questions. But there he is posed with self-dilemma, when he realizes that he had been a coward to not face his own life, his own problems. He had been foolish so as to think that some one else had answers to his questions, someone else knew the course of his life, when in reality the only person who knew what was going to happen next was him. That is when Ved is relieved of all his problems, and he has made it halfway through the battle. After understanding what he wants, he dances his way off to his home, with Safarnama playing in the background, which just enhances the feel of the movie manifolds.
”O, jisey dhoonda zamane mai, mujhime tha.
O, mere saare jawaabon ka, Safarnama.”
· “Ending sahi nahi hai, To koi baat nahi, apni kahani hai, Ending change kar lenge.”
The Conclusion!
The Final Battle
Here Ved comes from the story teller, and decides that he will confront his father, in the way he knows best, storytelling! And believe me on this, you won’t regret any part of it. He recites the story of a ‘hero’, first his grandfather, then his father, and then he himself. He knits the story of his life beautifully into the yarn of words, and shows his father how if he would continue the same life he would die one day, a mediocre robotic person, ambitionless and unproductive. He asks his family, “To kaisi lagi kahani?” and there faces say it all. He then reassures them saying, that I know the ending’s not good, but that’s not a big deal, it’s our story, we can change the ending. I was literally amazed at how easily he conveys something so deep and meaningful, and that my friends is what Tamasha was all about.
Tamasha was “frugal in words, fathomless in meaning.”
So basically my intent behind writing this article was that, first I loved the film, and wanted to express my love for it(I even made that doodle that appears with the blog!!), and also because Tamasha was actually one of its kind, and I repeat a masterpiece. It portrays the harsh reality of today, how people keep running those races that they aren’t even aware of, that they never wanted to be a part of in the first place. They have no idea about what they are doing, what is happening around them, and most importantly WHY they are doing it? Is it because they want to do this, or merely because certain people, and the ‘society’ wants them to do it. Why have we all become robots, who only respond in yes or no, why have we forgotten the beauty of a “WHY” or a “KYU”? We need to understand that no matter what the world says, or what the society expects from you, we need to follow our hearts, we need to do, what we want us to do, we must involve where we like being involved. There are certain decisions that a person makes for oneself, and what to aspire for is definitely one of them. It is our life, and it will have to be our choice, no further questions asked. It might be difficult for some people to go against the wind, going against the society but believe me, it can’t be harder than going against your heart. After all if everyone became an engineer or a doctor, who would narrate stories of their glory to the world??!!! Every profession is equally well if you love it, and every choice has to be respected, so don’t ever be afraid to make the choice for you. Many a times in life, inner peace is much more important than any other materialistic thing such as money and facilities, and to attain that you’ll have to do what gives you satisfaction, not frustration. Do not forget yourself, who you really are, and if you get lost, Discover Yourself. You create your own story, you decide what’s going to happen next, no one else can do that for you, every answer lies within you, have the patience to dive deep for it, wait for it, and it’ll come to you. Live your life, the way you wish. All the best!
