India, the peninsular subcontinent is home to 1.5 billon people accounting to 1/3rd of the world’s population. India is also one of the most culturally diverse nations in the whole world. With the increasing rise of the GDP after covid-19, India is now the 5th largest economy. From the Ambani’s to the Sundar Pichai’s and now to the Adani’s , India is a factory at producing talents. There are over 113 unicorn start ups in the country but one key detail is interesting about this fact. Over 90 unicorn startup’s CEO’s have graduated from one institute, the Indian Institute of Technology also know as IIT.
LIFE IN IIT
The first ever IIT was founded in the year 1951 in Kharagpur by Pandit Jawal Nehru. In the early days no one was interested in giving such competitive examinations but as time pass this turned into a nationwide rat race. The “IIT tag” carries a lot of advantages for higher studies abroad.
The quality of education provided by IIT is unmatched by any other institute in India. IITs are globally recognized for having high academic standards, rigorous curriculum and talented students. They have world class faculty and state-of-the-art facilities available for the students.
IIT truly opens door for opportunities to students to excel in their desired field. Also having a wide alumni network of people from top industries and companies help student to have a mentor like figure to guide them in their career.IIT truly is one of its kind when it comes to providing world class education and job opportunities.
TRUE COST OF BEING AN IITIAN
Now the question arises , how does a student get into IIT. Around 14 lakh students give the JEE MAINS entrance exam to give a shot at IIT. After 10th a student’s life completely changes, they have to spend 1/4th of the day studying for even cracking the JEE MAINS EXAM. In middle class households it’s a tradition that either their child will be an engineer or a doctor. With such amount of peer pressure and vast syllabus, the student dedicates his 2years towards his or her dream of being an IITIAN. Out of 14 lakh student’s only 2.5 lakh crack JEE MAINS EXAM. The student who crack JEE MAINS give another exam called JEE ADVANCE. Only 18k students finally get selected for studying in the prestigious IIT.

The IIT Kharagpur graduate Sundar Pichai played an integral role in the development of Google Drive, Google Chrome and Chrome OS. He replaced Larry Page as Google’s CEO in 2015 and became the CEO of its parent company, Alphabet LLC in 2020.
The man behind Infosys, Narayana Murthyd his master's degree from IIT Kanpur in 1969. In 1981, he started Infosys with six other engineers in , pursuePune with merely $250. Today, it’s a billion-dollar company that offers business consulting, information technology and outsourcing services.

Sachin Bansal started Flipkart as an online bookstore out of an apartment in Bangalore and built it into a billion-dollar business that became India’s answer to Amazon. Interestingly, he worked at Amazon for almost a year before starting Flipkart. His degree in computer science from IIT Delhi helped him build Flipkart’s website and handle daily operations.
Before Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter, Parag Agrawal was the CEO of the social media platform. After completing his graduation from IIT Bombay, Parag pursued a PhD from Stanford University and even did research internships at Yahoo! and Microsoft. These are just some of the great businessman and entrepreneurs who completed their graduation from IIT.
THE ONES WHO DON’T
What about the massive 13.8 lakh students who don’t get into IIT, are they considered as unworthy , are they worthless in this world full of geniuses . No , a common sentiment is always there among people that if you cannot get into IIT you can’t achieve anything in life. This is totally wrong , anyone can achieve success through hardwork and determination . There are ups and downs in this process but it doesn’t mean you give up at the mere age of 18. A whole new life is infront of the student and failing to get into IIT was just a small experience in this ocean called life.
