My school, Is it my school? Ofcourse my school. It was, it is and it will be my school. I take pride to say my school Jindal Adarsh Vidyalaya. When I was thinking to write a blog about my school, I thought about one particular event I will write. But to my surprise, I was unable to choose that one particular event, because every event, every moment, every year is special in its own way. This year I almost completed 14 years working in this school. My school represents our India, for it has students and teachers from all the states with different languages, traditions, knowledge, backgrounds, culture etc. My school started with only Kindergarten classes in 2003 with a very little strength of 150 students and 5 teachers in a small building. Now the school has grown into huge like banyan tree with lots of strong roots, 5000 students, 200 teachers and in 2 huge 3 floor buildings.
Every individual strives to make our school better every day. It may be management, teachers, students, supportive staff and all stakeholders. Sometimes my school looks like travel spot where every year one group of teachers are ready to depart and one more set of teachers are ready to arrive. There will be flow of new teachers every year with new insights. I love to see the new teachers and hope this year I am going to learn new things from new teachers and at the same time I feel pain to bid good bye to the teachers who are leaving. This is not only with the teachers, but also with the students.
The specialty of my school is , freedom, encouragement to implement new ideas which help the school to grow. When a stranger enters my school, he/she can sense this in our eco system. I have seen different leaders and their style of work to improve the school. This year we have got very enthusiastic leader(Dr. Thomas Remigius), his enthusiasm is contagious. We have some special teachers too, they are the energy boosters for all.
When it comes to students , they are the first generation learners. The parents are almost illiterate. But this never depressed us to work, instead I feel it is a blessing to teach this sort of students. Service to under privileged community is service to god. I have learnt how to convert a challenge into opportunity. Initially I compared these children are like very raw which have come directly from the field, the teacher work starts from cleaning to molding to teaching to turn them as finished products. Even we the teachers changed our mindsets that not only the students but the whole community is our responsibility. We use to conduct induction for parents, auto drivers, vendors etc.
We the teachers and students are very good at adaptability. Every year the teachers will undergo different trainings, workshops at different levels. When it comes to implementing the new processes, every one accept to unlearn the old processes and ready to learn new one. Here we give importance to culture rather only to content. It is easy to produce 90% student but it is difficult to produce a student who is self dependent, critical thinker, problem solver. I take pride to share that we at JAV try our best to make every student to have all these 21 century skills. Our students are best at sports, dance, social service too. The ambience of our school definitely helps every student to become creative and innovative in their thoughts. Any new thing happened in the world, will be brought into our classrooms, means we are moving along with the current aspects updating all the students.
As our vision states “Every Child Every Day A Leader” and we witness this every day. We are sure to reach our mission too “To raise children as thinkers who take ownership of their learning, practice being respectful and compassionate towards all, and aspire to find solutions to existing problems of the world.”
