So you want to travel extensively and see the world? But traveling abroad is expensive and it is rather difficult to save enough money to last you an entire gap-year. Not to worry there a good number of different kinds of jobs which you can take up while you are abroad.
A gap-year is a great time to get a foothold and get recognized. If you're not sure what you want to do as a career then a gap-year could be a great time to try out different jobs, you will get a feel of what you might want to do in the future. Earning even a small amount now could really help your bank balance in the future. Or maybe you could spend the extra cash to go traveling with, later.
If you are going to holiday in Europe you could easily find work in a ski chalet, as a waiter/waitress in a restaurant, work in a bar or engage in seasonal fruit-picking.
Why don't you try your hand at being what we call an au pair? The word means a young woman or man who willingly lives on equal terms with a host family in a country abroad. He/she helps the family with looking after the child care in the family and/or housework while staying as a guest of the family. In return for his /her services/help he/she receives an allowance or pocket money. An au pair is considered as an extended family member and certainly not a servant. It is expected that both the family and the au pair will learn to respect their mutual cultural differences and show tolerance towards each other..

If you are a native speaker of English (e.g., natural citizen of U.K , USA or Canada ) you are in luck because there is always a huge demand for people to teach English in many places across the world.
If you're lucky, you might even find an internship with pay.
If you happen to be an U.K citizen or happen to hold an EU ( European Union ) passport, you can work in any of the EU member countries, for which no visa or work permit would be required; there are countless jobs available to youngsters if they are familiar with the respective languages.
If you have decided to take a year out from your higher studies, work might be the last thing on your mind. But it could well prove necessary or even desirable. Some of the industries viz., media, medicine and law are very competitive and any kind of experience, whether paid or unpaid, might make substantial difference after a few years down the line, when you would be asked about your skills, aptitudes and any kind of previous experience acquired, by a potential employer. .
